DERKSEN, John (Johann) J. and Louise


John (Johann) J. Derksen

Funeral service for John J. Derksen who died April 26th 1955 at the Vancouver General Hospital was held Saturday April 30, 1955 at the Mennonite Brethren Church. He was living with his daughter Mrs. John Plett in Vancouver.

Mr. Derksen was a Yarrow resident for 26 years and had been a storekeeping Yarrow for 10 years and had been retired since 1939. He as born in South Russia on September 19, 1881. He married Miss Louise Fisher in Russia in 1908.

Survivors include one son: Dave Derksen, Yarrow, B.C.; three daughters: Mary, Mrs. Peter Enns, Oliver, B.C.; Annie, Mrs. William Dyck, Vancouver, B.C.; Martha, Mrs. John Plett, Vancouver; one stepdaughter Annie, Mrs. John Dahl, Yarrow, B.C. two brothers: George and Julius Derksen, Yarrow, B.C. and 17 grandchildren.

Interment in the Yarrow Cemetery followed the funeral. Rev. H. Lenzmann officiated, assisted by Rev. Frank Friesen from Morden, Manitoba. Pallbearers were John Plett, William Dyck, John Dahl, Frank Friesen, Dave Derksen and Peter Enns.

Chilliwack Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Louise Derksen

1883 - 1951

Mrs. Louise, nee Fisher, wife of John Derksen, Yarrow, B.C. died January 5th, 1951 at the home of her daughter Mrs. Peter Enns at Oliver where she had been visiting during the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.

She was a resident of the Chilliwack district for 22 years.


Mrs. Derksen is survived by her husband John and three daughters: Mrs. W. Dyck, Winnipeg, Manitoba; Mrs. John Plett, Vancouver, B.C.; and Mrs. Peter Enns of Oliver; one son David Derksen, Yarrow, B.C. and eleven grandchildren.

Rev. Herman Lenzmann conducted the funeral services that the Yarrow Mennonite Brethren Church on January 8th 1951. Interment followed at the Yarrow Cemetery under the direction of Chilliwack Funeral Home.
