WIENS, John John

John J. Wiens and Abram J. Wiens

A double funeral service was held at Yarrow Mennonite Brethren church on December 10, 1943 with Rev. John Harder, Rev. A. Nightingale, and Rev. H. Bartsch, African Missionary officiating of John John Wiens and Abram John Wiens, two brothers whose deaths occurred within a day of each other. Interment will be in the Yarrow Cemetery.

John John Wiens passed away December 5 1943 at his home on No. 2 Road, Sumas Prairie after a lengthy illness. He was born October 17, 1878 at Hamberg, Molotschna, South Russia to John John & Agatha (Neufeld) Wiens.

He was married to Katharina Peters on June 19th, 1905 at Putschkovo, Omsk, Asiatic Russia. They had 10 children, 5 died young. Johann & Katharina lives in various places in Russia and moved to Friendensruh in 1913.

They immigrated to Canada on March 27, 1927 arriving at Saint John, New Brunswick on the S.S. Melita. They moved to Coaldale, Alberta where they were baptized July 7, 1929. In 1940, the entire family moved to Yarrow, B.C.

He was in his 66th year and is survived by his wife Katharina, two daughters and three sons.
