SCHELLENBERG, Helena

Helen was born June 5, 1927 to Jacob Gerhard & Elizabeth (Paetkau) Epp in Waldheim, Sask., their 10th child and only child to be born in Canada. Helen moved at a very early age with her family to Yarrow, B.C. arriving by train in February 1928. Helen attended elementary school in Yarrow and graduated from Chilliwack High School in 1946. Helen was baptized May 25, 1947 and was accepted as a member of Yarrow M.B. Church. Helen attended Teacher's Training at Vancouver Normal School and taught in Vancouver and Surrey. She married the love of her life, a teacher, (Jack) Schellenberg on June 27, 1953 at the Vancouver M.B. Church.

Jack & Helen were blessed with four sons: Gary James, Kenneth John and twins Randall Stewart and Richard Alan. Her family was the most important thing in her life. She welcomed four daughter's in-law Heather, Connie, Louise and Jeanette with open arms and later her 12 grandchildren. As an amazing grandmother to her 12 grandchildren, Helen shared her love of music, drawing and painting, gardening, books and many garage sale treasures with them. There never was a time when they didn't feel grandma's love. She inspired them to pursue their interests and loved to hear about them. Helen loved cooking for her family on special occasions such as Christmas, Thanksgiving and Easter. Food was followed by conversation, music and games of tile rummy.

Helen lived in in many places but her dream home in North Delta was her favourite, she lived there until 2012, when she moved into Primrose Gardens in Abbotsford where she spent her final 3 years. Helen went to be with her Lord and Saviour on the morning of September 17th, 2015.

Helen was predeceased by Jack in 2002 and is survived by Gary (Heather); Ken (Connie), Richard (Jeanette), Randy Louise), 12 grandchildren, sister-in-law Lucy, brother-in-law John and many nieces and nephews. She will live in our hearts as a beautiful, artistic, family and flower loving, gardening and bargain-hunting, gardening and memory-making mother and grandmother. Funeral was at We love you Mom!

The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the doctors, nurses, staff, and volunteers at the Abbotsford Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit for their kind, compassionate care during her hospitalization. A celebration was held at the Menno Hospital Chapel, 32945 Marshall Rd., Abbotsford at 4:30 pm on Saturday, September 26th 2015.
