SCHEER, Lena Emily

Lena Emily Toews Scheer was born August 22, 1924 at Neu Samara, Russia to George & Helena (Stobbe) Toews.

Lena's family immigrated to Canada in 1926, settling on the prairies before moving to Yarrow, B.C. Yarrow was Lena's home for 70 years. She became a Christian at an early age and was baptized at Yarrow M.B. Church and became a member. Lena attended Elim Bible School and Vancouver normal school.

Lena married Albert Scheer, May 12, 1951 at Yarrow M.B. Church.

Lena and Albert's faith carried them after the 1971 death of their daughter Sharon in a car accident. Lena enjoyed the Dorcas Ruth Club and volunteering at the MCC thrift store. She was known for being loving and nurturing. Lena loved vacationing with her siblings, reading, playing games and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In 2010, Lena had a mild stroke. Arthritis diminished her mobility, and Albert cared for her until his hospitalization in 2014, when Lena moved to Menno Home.

Lena Scheer went to be with Jesus, her Lord and Saviour, on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2015.

She is lovingly remembered by her husband Albert (married 64 years), her sons Dennis (Glenda), Ken (Julie), Ray (Anne), her seven grandchildren, her 12 great grandchildren, and her four sisters Marion, Elsie, Betty and Vera. She is predeceased by her daughter Sharon, her sisters Margaret and Irma, and her brother George. Mom spent her last eleven months living at the Menno Hospital where she was regularly visited by many family members and friends.

We as a family are so very grateful and thankful to all the wonderful staff who helped care for and love our mother. A very special Thank You to mom's roommate Anita and her husband Rudy Kasdorf who became like family to us. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am Thursday April 16, 2015 at the Yarrow Mennonite Brethren Church. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Teen Challenge.
