Gerhard Heinrich Sawatsky, age 81 of 9422 Cook Street Chilliwack died July 28, 1982 at St. Paul's Hospital.
Funeral service was at Glad Tidings Fellowship. Pastors Dave Huebert, Jim Gaetz and Lorne Lueck officiated. Burial was at the Yarrow Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Mervin Effa, Rudy Runzer, Leonard and David Sperling, Kenneth Scarrow and Tony Heppner.
Gerhard Heinrich was born March 4, 1901 at Andreasfeld, Chortitza South Russia to Heinrich G. & Susanna (Goerzen) Sawatsky and came to Canada with his family to Aberdeen,
Sask at the age of 10 months. George married Eva Funk on June 9, 1924 at Warman Saskatchewan at Brotherfield Mennonite Brethren Church west of Waldheim. George and Eva
moved from Aberdeen, SK., to Yarrow, B.C. in 1943 and became members of Yarrow MB Church. Four daughters were born to them: Laura, Susan, Frances and Evangeline. Eva passed
away January 14, 1976

George lived in Yarrow until his retirement in 1978. He was a construction worker. He was also a chairman of maintenance at the Yarrow M.B. Church and a director on the
Chilliwack Regional Fair Board and chairman of the hobbies section. He was also a member of the Fraser Valley brush and Palette Club and Community Arts & Crafts.
He is survived by his wife Hilda Sperling; four daughters: Laura (Mervin) Effa, Phoenix, Arizona; Susan (Dave) Sperling, Abbotsford BC; Frances (Gerald) Harder, Outlook, Saskatchewan;
Evangeline (Kenneth) Scarrow, Langley, BC; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; two brothers: John Sawatsky of Abbotsford and Dr. David Stanwood of Vancouver; two sisters:
Susie (Nicolai) Bauman of Mission and Helen (John) Andres of Abbotsford and three step-sons: David Sperling of Chilliwack; Len Sperling of Abbotsford and Don Sperling of Beaver Lodge,
Alberta; two step-daughters: Hazel( Mrs. R) Runzer of Burnaby, and Frances (Pastor Dave) Huebert, of Chilliwack; eight step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
