Anna Sawatsky (Guenther)
Anna Guenther Sawatsky was born April 12, 1912 near Osler, Saskatchewan where she grew up. Her parents were Franz & Susanna Guenther. Her father was a watchmaker/jeweller.
In 1931 she received religious instruction, was baptized and joined the Mennonite Church.
In October of 1935 she married George Sawatsky, a union blessed with one son Ervin.
The Sawatsky family moved to Yarrow, B.C. in 1940. It was here that the Gospel of Christ
took on a new importance for her. After five years of searching for a deeper joy in the Lord, Anna found new joy and forgiveness after responding to the Word of God
during a service at which Rev. Abram Nachtigal spoke.
Anna was a loving mother and took good care of her home and garden. She picked hops, and later worked the Yarrow Canneries and York Farms.
Anna continued as a faithful member of the Yarrow Mennonite Brethren Church and an active participant in the Ladies aid activities until her passing.
Anna became ill in the spring of 1974 and cancer was discovered. On October 23, 1975 she entered the Chilliwack General Hospital for the last time and went home to her
Lord on November 25, 1975.
Anna leaves to mourn her beloved husband, George, their son Ervin of Vancouver, her four brothers: John Guenther, Yarrow; Abe Guenther, Mission; Henry Guenther, Vancouver;
and Bill Guenther, Chilliwack; and one sister Susie Teichrob, Vancouver and their families, relatives and friends.
Rev. Peter Teichrob and Rev. P.D. Loewen officiated at the funeral service for Anna Sawatsky at the Yarrow M.B. Church. Pallbearers were John Guenther, Abe Guenther, Henry
Guenther, Bill Guenther, Elmer Guenther and Paul Teichrob.
Interment was at the Yarrow Cemetery.
