SABO, Charles




A Yarrow farmer and an elder of Calvin Presbyterian church, Abbotsford, Charles Sabo died in Cottage hospital in that city Saturday (January 7th, 1956).

Funeral service will be held Friday at 1:30 pm in Calvin Presbyterian church with Rev. K.C. Doka officiating. Interment will be in Hazelwood cemetery, Matsqui. Pallbearers will be six elders of the Calvin Presbyterian church. Four honorary pallbearers will be members of the church session.

Born in Hungary, July 2, 1879, Mr. Sabo lived in the Yarrow district four years. He came to Canada 57 years ago and lived in BC 25 years. Charles & Julianna Sabo and their sons Charlie and Steven moved to Yarrow in 1932. Here they purchased the Broe farm on Majuba Hill. They cleared the land on the hill and grew raspberries, but the deer jumped the fences and ate the young plants. They also raised cattle and shipped milk.

Surviving him are his daughters, Mrs. Albert Groves, Clarkdon, Ont.; Mrs. Vincent Cinkota, Sioux, Lookout, Ont.; Mrs. J.J. Wittenberg, Yarrow and Mrs. D.H. Currence, Carstairs, Alta.; sons, John, Deroche; Charles, Vancouver, and Steve Yarrow; 19 grandchildren and 18 great, grandchildren.
