POETKER, Anna Elizabeth (Janzen)

POETKER -Anna Elizabeth (Janzen) Poetker , beloved wife of James, mother of Darrell and Connie and grandmother of Sheri, Michael, Katrina, Jessica, Thomas and Matthew, passed away peacefully, on January 11, 2005 in Vancouver, B.C.

Ann was born at Yarrow, BC on May 7, 1936, the fifth of ten children born to Jacob & Helena (Plonert) Janzen. She attended school in Yarrow and graduated from the Sharon Mennonite Collegiate (SMC) high school in 1954 and attended MBBC in Winnipeg for a year.

Anna was married to James W. Poetker on April 7, 1958 at the Yarrow MB Church. She lived in North Delta for the past 45 years. Ann started her career as a Realtor in 1972 and was truly outstanding in her field! A friend to colleagues and customers alike, her integrity, graciousness and sense of humor was an inspiration to all. Ann's courage and grace in the face of her incurable illness over the last few months and days was truly remarkable but not surprising to those who knew her. Her faith in God and his salvation became increasingly strong as the end drew near. Though the final days were difficult we are thankful to have had the opportunity to say goodbye to this very special lady. The family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses who provided wonderful care to Ann at Delta Hospital and VGH.

She was predeceased by her parents Jacob & Helena Janzen, a younger sister Erna, nephews Gary Janzen and Daniel Janzen; and will be missed dearly by her husband James, son Darrell (Sharon) and daughter Connie (Ken); grandchildren, Sheri, Michael, Katrina, Jessica, Thomas and Matthew. She is also survived by six sisters, Lena (Jack) Block, Katherine (Peter) Giesbrecht, Ruth (Peter) Thiessen, Esther (Ron) Langhoffer, Mikki (Doug) Kirk and Elfrieda, two brothers, Henry (Margaret) and Erwin (Leona) and many more relatives and friends.

A Memorial Service was be held at 1:30pm Friday January 14, 2005 at Fraserview Mennonite Brethren Church, 11295 Mellis Dr., Richmond. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the World Vision, #890-5951 No. 3 Road, Richmond, BC,
