ORD, John


John Ord

1927 - 1987

John Ord passed away March 3, 1987 at his home in Yarrow B.C. He was 60 years old. He was born February 1, 1927, a twin to his brother Edmund.

Helen & Henry Ord had three children, twins Edmund and John and Caroline.

Sumas Prairie, near Yarrow was once a patchwork of hop yards owned by his family with a beautiful home up on Majuba Hill. The Ord Hop yards were sold to John I. Haas in August 1957.

He served with the Canadian forces in Germany during World War II and came home on November 6, 1946.


John lived in the family home up on Majuba Hill sporadically through the 1950s & 1960s and eventually year-round through the 1970s, until his death there on March 3, 1987.

He is survived by his brother Edmund Ord of San Marino, California; his sister Caroline Thompson of Camarillo, California and by three nephews.

Mass of Christian burial was held on March 13th 1987 from St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church with Father Gary Gordon officiating.

Active casket bearers were members of the Knights of Columbus.

Burial was at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
