NEUFELD, Kaethi

Kaethi Neufeld

1927 – 1989

Kaethe (Giesbrecht) Neufeld of Herbert Saskatchewan passed away August 20, 1989.

She was born February 28, 1927 in Waldheim. In 1928 the family settled in Saskatoon, where her father worked for OK Economy Stores.

They moved to Yarrow B.C. in 1933, to Laidlaw, B.C. in 1934 and back to Yarrow in 1937.

Kaethi developed a capacity for gentle and genuine friendship early. In winter, 1939, she experienced conversion during evangelistic services with John B. Toews.

In summer 1939, the family moved to Vancouver. She completed elementary school and found work as a nanny and housekeeper.

She studied one winter at Yarrow Bible School.

After brief years of uncertainty and waywardness, her mother’s loving heart and prayers led her to a recommitment to Christ.

In 1948, farmer John Neufeld came to Vancouver looking for work. They were married on November 4, 1951 and began farming the Neufeld farm in Herbert, Sask. She was not outgoing or boisterous, but their home was unusually hospitable to visitors and she is remembered as a gentle, kindly and affectionate person who loved her Lord devoutly and who touched many lives.

She had diabetes and in June 1989, she was diagnosed as having cancer.

Kaethe is mourned by her husband John and children, Philip, Robert, Richard, Kathie Priebe, Susan Kehler and Carolyn; 14 grandchildren; one sister and 4 brothers. The funeral was August 25th 1989 in Herbert MB Church with George Janzen ministering.
