Martha Martens nee Klassen
Martha was born February 14, 1927 in Beaver Flats, Saskatchewan to John & Helena Klassen and was the youngest of a blended family of 16 children.
The family moved to Yarrow B.C. and she attended Chilliwack High School. She married Jack Martens in 1949. They moved to Victoria, B.C. in
1958 with their three young children, Elaine, Judy and Jared settling in the Royal Oak area. Martha worked as a bookkeeper for Dicker-Martens
Paint and later at the Racquet Club and St. Michaels University in the office.
Martha was a gentle soul, loving and caring, with a quick ready smile. She loved her family above all else.
Martha was predeceased by her parents and 15 siblings. Her memory will always be cherished by her daughter: Elaine (George) Holmes of Sooke,
B.C.; Judy (Doug) Webb of Kamloops, B.C.; Megan (Ryan) van Diemen; Jared (Adrienne) Martens, 8 great-grandchildren,
4 great-great-grandchildren, "adopted" daughter Cass Schaefer, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Before her decline in health, Martha was an active member of Central Baptist Church where she served in many capacities.
She loved music and sang in many small groups and choirs over the years. She loved playing games, especially Scrabble and would
have the score written down long before the others had added their scores.
