Frieda Martens
January 5, 1915 - August 27, 2017
Frieda Martens was born in Borden, Sask. on January 5, 1915 to Wm. W. and Katherine (Toews) Martens. At the age of 1 ½ years she lost her mother. Her formal education ended
before completing Grade 8. She lived through the Depression along with 15 siblings. Frieda was baptized at Neville, Sask., on June 21, 1930.
Frieda married Herbert P. Martens, Oct. 12, 1939. Two children: Peggy and Jim were born to them. Her most profound loss was the sudden death of her beloved Herb,
husband of only 22 years. as a result of a motor vehicle accident on June 29, 1961.
Widowed at 46, she turned to her faith in God, her church, her family, and friends. Her strength and independence grew over the years as she lived a life of
gratitude and service; baking, canning, cooking, sewing, and volunteering for MCC for more than 60 years.
She faced many challenges with tenacity and courage during her 102 years, 8 months of life.
She moved from Abbotsford to Vernon, B.C., after her 100th birthday and passed away peacefully on August 27, 2017.

With many amazing memories we are left to carry on her legacy: daughter: Peggy (Al) Hiebert, Rebecca (Graham) Dyck, Melaina and Keiron, Sara (Rick Mussenden),
Claire and Gracie, son: Jim (Bev) Martens, Camille Martens, Micah and Anastasia, Rachel (Keith) Wyatt and many nieces, nephews and friends of all ages.
A memorial service was held at Bakerview MB Church, 2285 Clearbrook Rd. Abbotsford on Saturday, October 7, 2017. In lieu of flowers those friends wishing to make memorial
contributions in memory of Frieda may do so to the MCC BC.
With respect and gratefulness to Dr. Dave Arnold, Heron Grove, and Gateby staff for the warm and loving care extended to mother (and our family) during her last years.
Arrangements under the direction of Vernon Funeral Home, Vernon, BC.
