KORNELSEN, Elizabeth Derksen

Elizabeth Derksen Kornelsen of Chilliwack, B.C. passed away May 13, 1990.

She was born November 20, 1932 in Yarrow, B.C. She attended Sunday school and church at Yarrow MB Church, where she accepted Christ and was baptized and became a member.

She attended school in Yarrow, Chilliwack and Clearbrook. She worked for the Bank of Montreal in Chilliwack for three years.

She married Don Kornelsen October 26, 1952. In 1965, they moved to Winnipeg, where don became manager of Christian Press and Bookstore of the Canadian MB Conference. They attended River East MB Church where Elizabeth was active in Pioneer Girls. She enjoyed being around people and her home was open to guests and board members from B.C.

In 1975, they moved to Calgary. In winter 1976 they helped form south Calgary MB Church. She learned to play the organ.

In 1979 they returned to Chilliwack, where they owned and operated Fraser Valley Custom Printers. She worked in the business for several years, making new acquaintances and friends.

Broadway MB Church became her church again. In 1983 she became church organist which gave her much joy and for which she spent many hours in prayerful preparation. She also enjoyed playing piano and organ at home.

On November 2, 1989, she was taken to hospital with an acute heart condition. She came home but grew weaker. She often wished she would not wake up in the morning; her wish was granted on the morning of Mother's Day, with her husband and children present.

Funeral service was held May 17, 1990 from Broadway Mennonite Brethren Church with Pastor Bob Friesen officiating. Casket bearers were her sons, Gordon, Robert and Jim Kornelsen, son-in-law Richard Plummer and Garry Rempel and Ron Koehn.

She was predeceased by 10 year old daughter Jane in 1968. She is mourned by her husband Don; sons: Gordon & Dina of Sardis, Robert & Michelle of Chilliwack, James & Tammy; daughter: Cherryl & Richard Plummer of Calgary and 6 grandchildren, brothers and sisters-in-law: Jake of Clearbrook, John & Frieda of Steinbach, Man., Peter & Agatha of Clearbrook, Henry & Myrtle of Vancouver, George & Clara of Chilliwack; sisters and brothers-in-law: Kay & Waldo Rempel of Vancouver, Margaret Derksen of Vancouver and Frieda & Aaron Koehn of Burnaby. She was predeceased by her daughter Jane in 1968 and by her parents John & Katherine Derksen.
