KLAASSEN, John J.


John J. Klaassen

1882 - 1949 A deacon of Yarrow Mennonite Brethren Church for several years, John J. Klaassen passed away at Yarrow Old People’s Home on 25 February 1949. He Had been a resident of Yarrow for 11 years and lived at 929 Central Road.

John was born in Kansas, USA on March 23, 1882. He had been in Canada for 36 years. He farmed at Beaver Flats and Redfield in Saskatchewan before coming to Yarrow.

He leaves his wife, Mrs. Helena Klaassen, five sons, Sam, Albert and John of Yarrow; Henry of Arnold Station and Dan of Leamington, Ontario; four daughters: Mrs. Jacob Froese of Chilliwack; Mrs. John Penner, Miss Mary Klaassen and Miss Martha Klaassen all of Vancouver; four stepsons: John Dyck and Abram Dyck in Columbia and Ecuador respectively; Peter of Stewart Island, B.C.; Jacob Dyck of Yarrow, B.C.; three stepdaughters: Katie (Mrs. Herman) Falk, Sumas; Mrs. Henry Klaassen, Arnold Station; and Miss Helen Dyck, Kansas City, Mo. U.S.A. and 34 grandchildren.

Funeral services were at the Yarrow Mennonite Brethren Church with Rev. John A. Harder, Rev. C.D. Toews and A. Rempel officiating. Interment followed at Yarrow Cemetery.



Mrs. Helena Klaassen

1886-1984

Rev. Wilmer Kornelson officiated at the funeral service for Mrs. Helena Klaassen at the Fraserview Mennonite Brethren Church in Vancouver. Mrs. Klaassen passed away October 15, 1984 at the Chilliwack General Hospital.

Mrs. Klaassen was born in South Russia on December 24, 1886 and had lived in the Chilliwack district for 27 years. She also lived at 5635 Wright Street in Vancouver and she was a patient in Menno Private Hospital at Abbotsford.

She was survived by three sons: Jake Dyck, Vancouver, Abe Dyck, Ecuador; Pete Dyck, New Westminster; three daughters: Miss Mary Dyck, Vancouver; Mrs. Jack(Martha) Martens, Victoria; Mrs. H.B. (Anna) Klaassen, Abbotsford; Miss Helen Klaassen, Ecuador; five stepsons: Henry Klaassen, Abbotsford; Sam Klaassen, Yarrow; Albert Klaassen, Chilliwack; John Klaassen, Yarrow; and Dan Klaassen Ontario; two stepdaughters: Mrs. John (Lydia) Penner, Vancouver; Mrs. J.A. (Amanda) Froese, Chilliwack; 53 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

Interment was at Yarrow Cemetery. Garden Chapel Funeral Home, Abbotsford was in charge of arrangements.
