KLAASSEN, Albert B.


Albert B. Klaassen

1909 – 1886

Albert B. Klaassen of Chilliwack B.C. was born January 19th 1909 to John J.M. Klaassen in Hillsboro Kansas. They moved to southern Saskatchewan in 1918. His mother and youngest sister died in an influenza epidemic. After a brief stay in Lodi California, the family returned to Saskatchewan, eventually settling in Redfield, Sask.

He sang in a quartet with is his brothers and he also sang in the choir of Mullingar Church. Here he accepted the Lord and was baptized.

He married Mary Thiessen on October 1, 1933. In 1937 they moved to British Columbia, living in Yarrow, Sumas Prairie and after 1949, in Chilliwack. He was active in mixed farming but he was best known as a “finish” carpenter. He is remembered for his precise and honest work.

His family remember him as a father who showed his love for them through his deeds and prayers. A few weeks before his death, he shared with a family member that he was ready to meet God, he passed away on October 12th 1986.

He was predeceased by his three sisters and three brothers, he is remembered by wife Mary; daughters Ruby Hamm of Abbotsford; Verna Zook of Iowa City, Iowa, Doreen Enns of Vernon, B.C.; ten grandchildren, four brothers, two sisters, two step-brothers and three step-sisters.

The funeral was October 16th at the Chilliwack Alliance Church with Rev. Harold Throness and Rev. J.T. McNair ministering.
