KASPER, David


David Kasper

1908 -1986

David Kasper was born July 5, 1908 to David & Maria Kasper in Alexandertal, Russia. He accepted Christ and was baptized August 2, 1926 by John Toews in Alexandertal and joined the M.B. Church.

In September 1926, he married Katie Klassen of Alexandertal. A son, Victor was born to them in June 1938. During World War II, David was imprisoned for his faith. Katie and Victor fled to Wartegau on the Russian-Polish border where she died of starvation in April 1944. Victor was cared for by Katie’s sister. They were both sent back to Russia. In June 1956, Victor was killed by the rebels.

In 1948, David immigrated to Canada. He worked in a senior citizens home in Yarrow, B.C. showing loving care to the residents there. Later he moved to Vancouver and worked for the University of British Columbia. He enjoyed his work and was appreciated for unselfish and willing labor.

In 1956, he joined Fraserview MB Church in Richmond, B.C. After retirement he did voluntary work at the church and at Menno Court. He enjoyed gardening. He loved and studied the Bible, especially Revelations. His cheerful and friendly personality was a blessing to many.

David passed away December 21, 1986. He is survived by two sisters in Russia. His funeral was December 24th at the Fraserview MB Church with pastor Peter Nikkel, Ray Dueck, Adolph Redekop and a men’s quartet ministering.
