Janzen Margaret (Derksen) December 8 1925 ~ November 11, 2014
Margaret Derksen Janzen, the daughter of John & Tina (Regehr) Derksen, who came to Canada in 1925 to Blaine Lake, SK where Margaret was born. In 1930, they moved to Yarrow, BC, and lived on Central Road. They were long time members of the Yarrow MB Church. Margaret became a domestic working in Vancouver at 14, far from her family in Yarrow B.C. After obtaining her high school diploma, she started her lifelong career at B.C. Tel. She was proud to work for Telus. Margaret was a worldwide traveller, enjoying many trips with her friends Dorothy, Florence and Kathy. She was passionate about photography. She collected fine china on her lunch breaks in Downtown Vancouver.
Margaret enjoyed horseback riding, skiing, water skiing, camping, and canoeing as well as attending the symphony and opera. She was a great knitter making some 100 baby outfits and afghans.
Margaret accepted Christ as Saviour and was baptized August 26, 1944 at Yarrow B.C. and accepted into the Yarrow MB Church. She later transferred her membership to Fraserview in Richmond and later to White Rock Baptist Church in Surrey, B.C. She taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and served as deaconess at Fraserview M.B. Church.
In 1991, Margaret Derksen (b. 1925), married Jacob Heinrich Janzen her 2nd cousin, and his family became hers. Jake's sons: Karl, Harry, Walter, Helmut, Ed and their spouses, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her marriage to Jake was brief; Jake passed away March 14, 1993, but gave her a large loving family. Her retirement was filled with volunteering at the Union Gospel Mission, MCC, MOPS, the church library and the Kent Street Singers.
A fall in September 2014 broke her femur and Margaret got pneumonia which caused her death. Margaret passed away to be with her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, in the early morning of November 11th at Abbotsford Regional Hospital. She is predeceased by her parents Johan and Katherina Derksen, her sisters Elizabeth Kornelsen and Frieda Koehn, her brothers Jake, John, Peter and George. She is survived by her brother Henry (Myrtle), five stepsons and their spouses and many nieces and nephews. Memorial service was held Sunday, November 16, 4:00 pm at the Chapel at Menno Place.
