JANZEN, Helmut T.

Helmut T. Janzen

24 April, 1929 – 24 July, 2016

Helmut Janzen peacefully went home to be with His Saviour and Lord on July 24, 2016. He was the 7th child born into the David K. Janzen family in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on April 24, 1929.

Helmut was predeceased by his dear wife of 51 years, Louise Janzen (nee Regehr) in 2005. He leaves to mourn his dear wife Alice Warkentin Janzen, his children Rhoda (Karl) Neufeld, Wes (Kim) Janzen, Kathy (Scot) McLellan, Rod (Lynda) Janzen, 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren (with one more on the way) and his sisters Anne and Mary and brothers Henry and David.

Helmut lived life to the full, loving the Lord and his family, praying daily for each one, by name. Helmut was committed first to the Lord Jesus whom he loved to serve in many capacities. Whatever he put his hand to, he did with passion, joy and much enthusiasm. He enjoyed teaching elementary school for many years in the public-school system including Winnipeg and Victoria and also was the head of the music department at Mennonite Brethren Bible Institute (now CBC) in Clearbrook, BC, conducting many student choirs, church choirs and community choirs. From a teaching career Helmut become a pastor in Abbotsford, Prince Rupert and Yarrow churches.

His heart for the Body of Christ and for everyone he met was always so evident. His greatest joy was to pass on his faith to others, leading many people to the Lord. Helmut loved people. It was very evident every day of his life. We will miss him deeply. “For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.”

Viewing was held at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 2310 Clearbrook Road, Abbotsford, on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at 7:00 pm. A celebration of Helmut’s life took place on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at 11:00 am at Central Heights Church, 1661 McCallum Road, Abbotsford.

Arrangements under the direction of Woodlawn Funeral Home, Abbotsford, BC.
