Helena Janzen

1910 – 1987

Helena Janzen of Clearbrook, B.C. passed away January 26, 1987. She was born November 4th 1910 to Johann & Maria Penner in New York, Russia. She came to Canada on October 9th 1926.

Shortly after coming to Canada, she found employment in Winnipeg, where she worked until marrying Jacob Henry Janzen of Niverville, Manitoba on October 23, 1932.

Helena had received Christ in her early you and she was baptized in Winnipeg by Rev. C. N. Hiebert on July 5, 1929.

After farming in Manitoba for 11 years, the Janzen family, including their four children moved to Yarrow, B.C. in 1943. After farming in Yarrow for 6 more years, they moved to Vancouver. In 1972, they retired to Clearbrook, B.C.

Despite her many years of illness, Helena never complained and she had a strong will to live. Her family remembers her as someone who always had a ready smile and was motivated by love, compassion and generosity.

Helena was predeceased by her parents, her stepmother and infant sons Henry and Ernest, two sisters and a brother. She is mourned by her husband Jacob and her children Jake, Irma Siebert, Hilda Banerd and Lora Mathieson, 21 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, one sister and six brothers.

Helena Janzen’s funeral was January 28th 1987 in Clearbrook M.B. Church with pastor J.E. Klassen ministering.
