Daniel Jacob Janzen, late of Sardis, B.C., passed away Sept. 15, 1990 at age 24. He was born June 29, 1966 to Erwin & Leona Janzen in Pouce Coupe B.C. Shortly afterwards, the family moved to Chilliwack BC. They enjoyed a country lifestyle and summers on a farm near Fort St. John B.C.
Daniel loved dirt biking, water and snow sports, team sports, pool and chess. He had a passion for living and a taste for the daring. He challenged life, challenged people to think and often challenged authority. He is also remembered as generous, thoughtful, compassionate and loving. He respected intelligence and little tolerance for sloppy thinking.
Daniel graduated from Sardis Secondary in 1984 and attended Capenwray Bible School in Texas for one semester in 1985 and then he completed two years of economics at Fraser Valley College and Simon Fraser University. In fall, 1989, a brain tumor was discovered. He maintained above average grades despite radiation and chemotherapy treatments.
In 1990 Daniel was in his final semester of completing a bachelor's degree in economics at Simon Fraser University, his degree was awarded posthumously. A memorial scholarship fund has been established.
Daniel enjoyed life. He liked playing baseball and was actively involved with a local league.
He was quick to speak his mind and loved a good debate. He had a great sense of humor and
cared deeply for his family and friends, especially his new niece Kaitlyn. Daniel was intelligent, articulate, and above all, distinctive.
He had attended Sardis Community Church from its beginning in 1975. He accepted himself as one of God's children, recognized God as a supreme and moving force in his life and was unreasonably at peace with his destiny.
Daniel will be missed and always loved by his family: parents Erwin Janzen and Leona Sawatsky Janzen, sister Cheryl
and her husband Randolph, brother Douglas and his wife Diane, brother David, his wife Barbara, and their daughter Kaitlyn.
Memorial service was held Sept. 20, at 10:30 a.m., at the Sardis Community Church. Rev. Murray Phillips officiating.
Pallbearers were be David Janzen, Douglas Janzen, Cheryl Janzen, Todd Remple, Mark Gutnick, and Barry Penner.
