GUENTHER, Abram


Abram Guenther

1867 - 1959

Abram Guenther of Yarrow passed away Saturday, March 22, 1958 at the Chilliwack General hospital at the age of 90. He was buried in the Yarrow Cemetery following services in the Yarrow Mennonite Brethren Church with Rev. Peter Dyck and Rev. H. Lenzmann officiating.

Mr. Guenther was born in Russia on September 23, 1867 at Zaporiz’ka, Ukraine, Russia. He was married to Elizabeth Dyck Nickel in 1914 in Russia. Elizabeth predeceased him in 1944. He came to Yarrow in 1948.

He is survived by his son Jacob 1908-1994 of Vancouver; seven daughters: Anna Guenther Banman 1892-1985, Manitoba; Maria Guenther Friesen 1894-1979 Vancouver; Helen Guenther 1895-1975 at home; Susanna Guenther Dyck 1902-1971, Yarrow; Mrs. A. Neufeld, Sardis; Olga Guenther Reimer 1915-2004, Manitoba; 41 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were six of his grandsons: A. Dyck, A Neufeld, John Neufeld, Walter Enns, Alvin Guenther and Abe Friesen.


Elizabeth Nickel Guenther

1878 - 1944

Elizabeth Guenther was born in Ebenfeld, Andreasfeld, South Russia. She was the daughter of Wilhelm & Elizabeth (Boldt) Nickle.

Her first marriage was to Cornelius Dyck (1875-1903), who died of TB. They had three children. She then married Johann Dyck (1850-1911) on December 28, 1906, and they had 4 children. She was his fourth wife. He passed away in 1911.

In 1914 she married her third husband, Abram Isaac Guenther (1867-19580, who was also a widower with children and they had a daughter Olga. The family came to Canada in 1925 and settled in Steinbach, Manitoba, where she passed away in 1944.
