FUNK, Susie

Susie Funk May 19, 1895 - January 25, 1986

Mrs. Susie Funk of Yarrow B.C. Passed away January 25, 1986. She was born May 19, 1895 to Heinrich and Anna Thiessen in Blumenheim, Southern Russia. She experienced personal salvation at age 14. In 1913, she was baptized and joined the MB Church. Singing in the church choir was a highlight in her life. She married Cornelius C. Funk on May 31, 1918. The Russian Revolution broke out and Cornelius was imprisoned three times. Her trust in God helped her through this. They and their four children were one of the last families permitted to leave Russia, reaching Saint John N.B. February 9, 1930. They lived at Gnadenthal MB for one year and two years at Coaldale AB before moving to Yarrow BC in 1933.

Susie found much pleasure in gardening and sewing for her family and friends. She often went about her work singing, both when she was happy and when she was sad. She found strength and encouragement in hymns. She is remembered as a positive, optimistic and courageous person. She was predeceased by her husband on March 6, 1985. She is survived by her children, Betty, Corney, Henry, Annie, Susie, Dorothy and Art, ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The funeral was January 29, 1986 in Yarrow MB Church with pastor Wilf Richert ministering. Burial followed at the Yarrow Cemetery.
