FAST, Katharina Wiens

Katharina Fast

1892 - 1985

Katharina Fast of Clearbrook, B.C. passed away May 1st, 1985. She was born in 1892 to David and Tina Wiens in Herzenberg, southern Russia. At age 12 she lost her mother. She then lived with her grandparents until she married.

At 15 she received the Lord, was baptized, and accepted into the MB church. In 1913 she married Franz Born, a union blessed with four children. In 1933 Franz died of starvation. In 1934 she married Jacob Fast, who had four children.

In 1938 Jacob and one son were sent to Siberia, never to be heard from again. In 1943 they left Russia as refugees, reaching Germany three years later. In 1948 they came to Canada with the help of relatives. She lived in Yarrow, B.C., Greendale, B.C and, since 1975, in Clearbrook.

She is survived by daughters Katie of Clearbrook and Sophie of Chilliwack, B.C., one stepson, two brothers, two sisters, 22 grandchildren and 23 greatgrandchildren.

The funeral was May 4th 1985 in Clearbrook MB Church, with pastor John Klassen and David Froese ministering.
