EWERT, Katharina Lepp


Katharina Ewert

1897 – 1987

Katharina Lepp Ewert was born February 7, 1897 in Deyevka, Orenburg, Russia, the second child of David and Katharina Lepp.

In 1923 they left Russia for Canada, but the father and some children had to stay in Germany for a while for health reasons. Katharina accepted the Lord in early life and was later baptized in Steinbach, Manitoba.

The Lepp family moved to Coaldale, Alberta where Katharina joined the Coaldale M.B. Church. In April 1935 she was called to serve in the M.B. Girls Home in Vancouver, B.C. After working there for 11 years, she moved to Yarrow B.C. where she operated a small berry farm with her sister Anna.

On October 30th she married Isaak Ewert and accepted his family as her own. In 1967 they moved to Clearbrook and began fellowshipping at the Clearbrook M.B. Church. Isaak passed away on April 24, 1972 and she moved into the Sherwood Home. On October 28, 1981, she was transferred to the Menno Hospital, where she spent her last years.

Katharina Ewert passed away February 8, 1987. She is remembered as one who led an exemplary life, always being steadfast and immovable. Katharina was predeceased by her husband Isaak and son Aaron and sister Anna. She is mourned by her children: Anna Froese, Abe, Isaac and Ewert and Peter and Katie Unger; brothers John, Aaron and Henry, sisters Mary Mirus and Agnes Krause, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The funeral for Katharina Ewert was February 13th 1987 in the Clearbrook M.B. Church with pastors John E. Klassen and John C. Dyck ministering.
