George Jacob Epp of Clearbrook, B.C. passed away Aug. 31, 1987.
He was born Dec. 28, 1909 in Rosenbach, Fuerstenland, Russia, the oldest of nine children of Rev. Jacob G and Elizabeth Epp.
The family immigrated to Canada, arriving Nov. 1, 1926.
They stayed with relatives in Langham, Sask., then moved to Waldheim, Sask., and then in 1928, on to the new settlement in Yarrow, B.C.
The Jacob Epp family established a home on 10 acres of land; the older children worked in the hop yards.
Early in life he received Christ and on Aug. 9, 1931 was baptized and joined Yarrow MB Church.
On Nov. 21, 1937 he married Elizabeth Janzen, a union blessed with six children. Fifteen-month old Dorothy died accidentally in August 1949.
George loved farming and was fond of animals. After the children had left home, he and Elizabeth travelled to the Holy Land and Europe.
He enjoyed family gatherings and playing games with his children and grandchildren. He was concerned that they would all come to know the Lord.
In the early 1980's they retired to Evergreen Village, Clearbrook and joined Clearbrook MB Church. He still enjoyed fishing trips and trips back to the farm.
Predeceased by one daughter Dorothy; two brothers, Isaak and Jake, and two sisters, Mary Neufeld and Elizabeth Schmidt.
He is mourned by his wife, Elizabeth; children Esther (Alvin) Harder, Jacob (Phyllis) Epp, Helene (Victor) Bahnman, Ed (Katie) Epp and Phil (Charlene) Epp; 12 grandchildren, one brother and three sisters.
The funeral was Sept. 4, 1987 in Clearbrook MB Church, with pastor J.E. Klassen and J.C. Dyck ministering.
