Jacob J. Dyck

1897 – 1960

Jacob John Dyck was botn April 8, 1897 in Alexandertal, South Russia to John & Katharina Dyck. As a young man he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour and shortly thereafter was baptized and accepted into the Mennonite Conference Church.

His first marriage to Anna Wiebe was blessed with two children. This marriage was terminated by her sudden death in Russia, leaving him alone with two young children, Annie and John.

On January 3, 1921, he married Eva Petkau. Four children were born to this union. One daughter passed away at age 6.

In 1926 the Dyck family immigrated to Canada, living in Cabri Saskatchewan for 10 years. In 1937 they moved to Dyke Road in Yarrow, B.C.

In 1943, Jacob was baptized and accepted into the Yarrow Mennonite Brethren Church, of which he remained a member until his death.

God saw fit to take Eva Dyck, Jacob’s wife to himself in March 1960, after a lengthy illness, leaving him alone once more. For nine lonely years he lived at his little farm in Yarrow before moving to the Tabor Home in 1969. He didn’t sell the farm before he moved to the Tabor home, so he would come out to spend a bit of time there and visit his neighbours.

Many times when his children would visit him they would find him reading in his Bible or listening to hymns on the record player. On July 3, 1975, God called him Home. One of his last thought which he put into writing was: “I was a poor sinner, but through the death of Christ I found Life and made the experience that the grace is sufficient up to the pearly gate of Jerusalem” (translated from German).

Jacob’s passing left to mourn are his three sons: John & Agatha of Richmond, B.C.; Jake & Lydia of ancouver, B.C.; Frank & Ursula of Richmond, B.C., two daughters: (Mrs.) Annie Klassen of Vancouer; (Mrs.) Elizabeth & Abe Peters of Yarrow, B.C.; 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Burial was at Yarrow Cemetery.
