DIRKS, Jacob

Jacob Dirks was born Dec. 22, 1911 to Peter and Tina Dirks in Franztal, Russia and died in late 1994.

He was 4 when his father died. His mother with the children emigrated to Canada in 1926. She died in Oct 1927 when Jacob was 16.

In 1928, he and his brothers moved to Oak Lake, MB where worked for a farmer. While plowing a field, he felt lonely and forsaken, knelt and prayed for blessing on his life.

He came to Yarrow, BC in 1934. He had accepted Christ in his youth and was baptized in Yarrow (B.C.) MB Church.

He married Tina Klassen on May 24, 1936. They established a large dairy farm near Yarrow, where they were joined by son Roland and daughter Ruby.

Jake & Tina retired to Abbotsford, B.C. in 1972. He landscaped their large lot. They took many trips together, often taking their grandchildren.

He gradually lost his health and spent his last years in care homes and hospital, smiling to see visitors. He is remembered for his enjoyment of good cars and a friendly home.

He is mourned by his wife, children Roland and Ruby Falk, both of Abbotsford, B.C.; 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
