DERSKEN, Annie (Annchen)


Annie Derksen of Abbotsford, B.C. passed away July 3, 1990. She was born July 8, 1909 to Gerhardt & Katharina Derksen in Blumenort, Molotschna, Russia. She accepted Christ at age 10 and was baptized July 5, 1926 and joined the MB Church at Blumenort, Molotschna, Russia.

The family immigrated to Winkler, Manitoba in 1925. She attended Winkler Bible School for a year. In 1930, the family moved to a small farm in Yarrow BC. She did domestic work for several years in Vancouver BC, and then returned home to Yarrow to help her parents.

Annie was a member of Yarrow MB Church, where she sang in the choir and faithfully taught Sunday school and helped her father in a ministry of letters to Russian Mennonites.

Annchen, as her friends called her, was a much loved member of a ladies' fellowship group and is remembered for her generous hospitality.

In 1968 Annie moved to Clearbrook BC where she joined the Clearbrook MB Church.

She moved to Tabor Home in Clearbrook in 1978 and Menno Hospital in Abbotsford in 1979.

Annie is survived by her only brother Jacob of Yarrow, 2 nephews and 2 nieces. The funeral was July 9th 1990 in the Menno Hospital chapel with John E. Klassen and Rev. Peter D. Loewen ministering.

Burial was at Yarrow Cemetery.
