DAHL, Johann (John) J.



John J. Dahl

1871 - 1954

Funeral services were held at the Yarrow Mennonite Brethren Church for John Dahl of 955 First Avenue Yarrow. John passed away June 26, 1954 in Chilliwack General Hospital. He was 82 years of age.

John Dahl was born in Russia on August 21st 1871 and had lived in the Yarrow area for 26 years. Previously, he lived in Dalmeny Saskatchewan.

He is survived by his wife, Helena (Lena) Dahl, three brothers, Peter, John and Jacob Dahl of Winnipeg, Manitoba; one sister, Miss Nettie Dahl of Winnipeg; 12 children: John Dahl, Yarrow; Jacob Dahl, Abbotsford; Frank Dahl, Yarrow; Henry Dahl, Yarrow; Peter Dahl, Yarrow; Mrs. George Hooge, Abbotsford; Mrs. John Hintz, Laird, Sask., Mrs. George Reimer, Yarrow; Mrs. John Hooge, Greendale; Mrs. Jake Isaac, Clearbrook; George Wiens, Clearbrook; Peter Wiens, Yarrow; and 78 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

His first wife was Judith “Ida” Lohrenz; born Sept 3, 1881 in Margenau, Molotschna, Ukraine; she passed away April 16th in Alexanderthal, Molotschna, Ukraine. They had seven children.

The Dahl Family Christmas dinner has always been an outstanding event because the gathering usually saw some 90 persons attending, all immediate relatives. This family dinner was held in the Yarrow MB Church basement, the only appropriate and accommodating room in the Yarrow community for so large a group.

Pallbearers were Ernie Hooge, Irvin H, Dahl, Aldwin R. Wiens, William G. Reimer, David H. Dahl, John W. Hooge.

Rev. H. Lenzmann officiated at the service assisted by Rev. J. Harder.

Interment was in Yarrow Cemetery.







Mrs. Helena (Lena) Dahl

1876 - 1963

A resident of this district for 35 years, Mrs. Lena Dahl died November 21, 1963 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. G. Reimer, First Street, Yarrow.

Rev. H. Brucks and Rev. J. Harder officiated at the funeral service at the Yarrow Mennonite Brethren Church.

Mrs. Dahl was born in South Russia in 1876. Her first husband was Isaak J. Wiens who was born Dec. 15th 1873 and passed away Jan 2nd 1921 in Ukraine, Russia.

She is survived by two sons: George Wiens, Abbotsford; and Peter Wiens, Yarrow; five step-sons, John, Jacob, Frank, Henry and Peter, two step daughters: Mrs. George Hooge, Abbotsford and Mrs. John Hooge, Sardis; 84 grandchildren and 66 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Ronnie Wiens, Johnny Reimer, Alvin Dahl, Helmut Isaac, Ed Dahl and Elvin Dahl.

Interment was in Yarrow Cemetery.
