BRAUN, John

John Braun was born on April 19, 1893 on the old calendar in Ekaterinovka, Ignatyevo, South Russia (or May 2, 1893 on the new calendar) to Johann I. & Maria (Penner) Braun. He was baptized upon confession of his faith in 1914 in South Russia.

He was joined in holy matrimony to Susanna Siemens on July 19, 1914 in South Russia. They immigrated to Canada in 1926 arriving November 21, 1926 on the S.S. Montclare in Quebec, Quebec and took up residence in Herbert Saskatchewan.

They moved to Yarrow in 1928 and became part of the first group of Mennonites to settle in this part of British Columbia. They lived on their farm on Stewart Road until their retirement just a few years before it pleased the Lord to take him home on May 4, 1971.

He leaves: his wife: Susanna; five sons: Harvey of Vancouver; Jim of Yarrow; Ben of Chilliwack; David of Richmond, BC; and Fred of Clearwater, BC; three daughters: Martha Braun of Vancouver; Mary (Alvin) Stobbe of Langley; and Susan (Gilbert) Brandt of California; two brothers: David of Greendale; and Ben of Germany; and 22 grandchildren.
