Lydia Borowski

1912 – 1995

Lydia Borowski passed away October 9, 1995. She was born September 27, 1912 to Gerhard & Lena Wall in Nikolaipol, Ukraine. She started to work on the farm at a young age, riding the plough horses. She enjoyed singing in the choir and attending church but baptism was no longer allowed.

Lydia married John Borowski in 1930. In 1936 the Borowskis immigrated to Germany. John was drafted into the German army in 1941. Her father died in prison in 1942. In 1945, Lydia and her sons walked to Berlin pulling a wagon containing their belongings. Later they fled to the village of Glienicke, where they worked on a farm.

John was released from a POW camp in 1948. They were reunited and lived in a refugee camp until immigrating to Canada in 1949. They moved to Yarrow B.C. where they were baptized in Yarrow M.B. Church. They lived there until 1973 when they retired to Clearbrook, B.C. Lydia was grateful for the ladies' fellowship group, for their prayers and love. She is remembered as a kind, loving mother and friend and a hard worker.

She was predeceased by John and an infant son. She is mourned by sons Waldemar and Nick of Abbotsford and Willy of Prince George B.C.; 2 grandsons; 2 sisters in Germany and 2 brothers in the CIS. The funeral was at Clearbrook MB Church with Jacob Pauls and John E. Klassen ministering.
