BAERG, Gerhard George

Gerhard (George) G. Baerg

Gerhard Gerhard Baerg was born in Alexanderkrone, Molotschna, South Russia on November 15, 1906 to Gerhard A. & Anna (Matthies) Baerg. He spent 12 happy years with his parents and brothers and sisters: Anna, Cornelia, Abram, Katharina (1901-1902), Maria , John, William and Heinrich. (Gerhard and Anna had 9 children, 5 sons & 4 daughters). Then his father died in 1919, and the difficult years of the revolution, famine and emigration followed.

In 1924 his mother immigrated in May 1924 to Ontario, Canada with 8 children, and then they moved to Dominion City, MB in 1925. Here they worked diligently and God blessed the family. Gerhard accepted Christ as his personal Saviour and joined the Arnaud MB Church in 1936, where he enjoyed the fellowship of the believers.

Gerhard was married to Hilda Enns from Arnaud in 1940 and they moved to Yarrow BC in 1944 where he engaged in small fruit farming and participated in the work of the MB Church there. Three sons: Rudie, Otto and Rick and two daughters: Sherry and Barbie were born to them and the family appreciated the steady and consistent spiritual relationship to God which their father had and for the good example he set them.

George Baerg was an accountant and lived in the Yarrow area for 28 years. He was also a member of the finance committee of the Yarrow MB Church for many years and gave Yarrow residents good advice and help with their financial records and Canadian tax forms.

George & Hilda Baerg and family lived at 42072 Central Road, Yarrow, BC. George died July 16, 1972 in the Chilliwack General Hospital.

He was survived by his wife Hilda, three sons: Rudy, Prince Rupert; Otto, Vancouver; Rick, student at the University of British Columbia; two daughters: Sherry, Burnaby; and Barbie at home; three brothers: Rev. John Baerg, Virgil, Ontario; William Baerg, returned from missionary work, Port Rowan, Ontario; Henry Baerg, Winnipeg; two sisters: Mrs. J. (Cornelia) Jantzen, Waldheim, Saskatchewan; Mrs. A (Mary) Isaac, St. Catherines, Ontario.
