ABRAHAMS, Jacob

Funeral services were conducted Monday from the Yarrow Mennonite Brethren Church with Rev. A. Nachtigal officiating for Mr. Jacob Abrahams, 54, who died at his home in Yarrow on March 13, 1945.

Jacob Jacob Abrahams was born October 12, 1890 in Franzthal, Molotschna, South Russia. His parents were Jacob & Sarah (Nachtigal) Abrahams. He married Katherine "Tina" Martens May 21, 1917. They had eight children: Sara, Sara, (both died in infancy); John, Katie, Sara (died in infancy) Jacob, David, and Helen.

He was leader of the choir at the Franzthal Mennonite Church; he is sitting in the middle of the front row in the photo below.

The Abrahams family came to Canada in 1925, and spent several years farming north of Winnipeg in Manitoba before coming to Yarrow in 1936.

He is survived by his wife Tina and five children: John (Gertrude), Katie (John) Klassen, Jacob (Lillian), David (Helena) & Helena (Jacob) Martens. He is also survived by his mother Sara Abrahams, now 93 years old, (Sara was born Aug 7, 1857 and passed away Sep 13, 1948); one sister: Mrs. John Becker, Fresno, California and one brother: David at Headingly, Manitoba.

Pallbearers were Peter Riesen, Cornelius Langeman, Henry Toews, Cornelius Peters, Aaron Rempel and David Klassen. Interment was in Yarrow Cemetery.
