Gertrude Giesbrecht Abrahams passed into the Lord's Presence on Sunday Morning, June 28, 2009.
Funeral Services will be held at Westwood Mennonite Brethren Church on Friday, July 3, 2009 at 10:00 am.
Gertie was born in the Russian Mennonite village of Wohldemfuerst on February 6, 1919 in the midst of the Russian Revolution, and suffered from this trauma for her whole life.
Her family immigrated to B.C. via Mexico and settled in the Mennonite village of Yarrow.
She graduated from Elim Bible School where she trained as a children's Bible Teacher. She fulfilled this mission with passion, teaching hundreds of Prince George's children the stories of the Bible. She cared not for the wealth of this world, but gave her heart to all children. She loved nature and was called "the flower lady" by the children on her block.
After retirement, Gertie and John retired to the country in Shelley and lived a very happy life involved with their family and their small hobby farm.
Gertie will be sadly missed by her children, Marvin, Gracie (Doug) and Ben. Grandchildren: Lilac (Chris), Broek (Jessica), Laine (Christina), John (Nicole), Scot, Esther (Kevin), Laura, Courtney.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Rainbow Care Home for the excellent care, and Dr. Galt Wilson for his extra care. Gertie and John were honoured to have you as their Doctor.
