Henry Spenst of Menno Hospital, Abbotsford, B.C. passed away June 6 1992.
He was born December 17, 1909 to Klaas & Susanna (Klassen) Spenst in Petrowka, Siberia. In 1926 the family immigrated to Grünthal, Man. He worked in Manitoba and Saskatchewan.
He accepted Jesus, was baptized and joined Griswold (Sask) MB Church in September 1929. He returned to Grünthal, Manitoba and married Sara Jantzen November 12, 1931. They moved to Coaldale, Alta in 1936; Yarrow BC in 1937; Oliver BC in 1938; Greendale BC in 1942; and Yarrow in 1950.
He worked at a Sawmill, was a cook in military camps, did electrical work and operated his own casket shop in Yarrow. During the flood of 1948, he worked tirelessly evacuating people and good. He enjoyed singing in various choirs and working on the PA system in Yarrow MB Church.
Sara died January 17, 1963 as a result of a motor vehicle accident.
He married Agnes Isaak July 13, 1963. They had many foster children 1963-77.
After retirement, they travelled to South America, South Africa (where they helped at a mission station), the Holy Land and Europe. They were MCC workers at Cedars Cottage in Rosedale, B.C. He received many blessings while reading the Bible and playing guitar.
In 1988, Henry & Agnes moved to Clearbrook, and joined the Clearbrook MB Church.
Henry was predeceased by his first wife Sara, 2 brothers, 1 sister and 1 grandson. He is survived by his second wife Agnes; 4 sons: Henry of Prince George, B.C., John of Chase, B.C., Nick of Langley, B.C., and Frank of Yarrow; 2 daughters: Helen Bleich of Prince George and Susie of Calgary; 1 brother; 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Funeral was June 11th, 1992 in Clearbrook MB Church, with John E. Klassen, Abe Klassen and Abe Esau ministering. Burial was at Yarrow Cemetery.
