Nickolai Reimer of Clearbrook, B.C. passed away December 20, 1992.
He was born February 6. 1894 to Nickolai and Maria (Pankratz) Reimer in Franzthal, Molotschna, Southern Russia. In 1901 the family moved to Terek, Caucasus.
He was a daring young man who had many brushes with death. In 1916 he received Christ and was baptized on July 10, 1916, which encouraged his brother Heinrich
and other young men to receive Christ. He was drafted, spending two years near the eastern Turkish front. He returned Terek, fled to Soworowka, Stawropol and
returned to Terek.
He married Sara Peters May 24, 1922 at Wanderloo, Terek, South Russia. They immigrated to Canada arriving in Quebec, Quebec on October 8, 1924, and moved to
Herbert, Saskatchewan. They moved to a farm in Langham Saskatchewan in 1925 and to Yarrow BC in 1928. They raised vegetable on 20 acres and became charter
members of Yarrow MB Church.
He then pursued his life's ambition to be a gardener and nurseryman, founding Reimer's Nurseries Ltd., in 1936. In 1975 they retired to Clearbrook BC but he
continued to raise plants in his greenhouse.
His life was marked by his love of God, love of plants and honesty in business. He had a strong sense of accountability to God and man. He was and optimist
and could laugh at himself.
Sara died after 65 years of marriage. She desired to sing in God's heavenly choir, and he desired to work in God's garden.
He is survived by his children: Margaret Henry of Watsonville, California; Nick of Mt. Lehman, B.C., Frieda Kasdorf of Fresno, California; Mary Driediger of
Brandon, Manitoba; and Hilda Neufeld of Abbotsford, BC; 24 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Funeral was December 28, 1992 with Rev. J.E. Klassen and
his son-in-law Hans Kasdorf ministering.
