KNOX, George Marshall

George Marshall Knox

A member of the first family to settle in the Yarrow area and a pioneer valley resident, George Marshall Knox died in Chilliwack General Hospital on December 23, 1959.

Mr. Knox who was 74, was born in County Middlesex, Ontario and moved with his family to Victoria when still only two years old.

His parents, Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Knox, later bought 1,280 acres in the area where Yarrow is now situated. In 1929 the Knox family sold 1,000 acres of their land to Mr. Chauncey E. Eckert who, in turn subdivided the land for sale to the Mennonite settlers.

Until four years ago, when he became ill, George Knox farmed the remaining piece of land, but most of it has now been sold.

Marshall Knox is survived by his wife, Etta; two daughters, Ethel and Edith at home; and a sister Mrs. Mary E. Cameron, Yarrow.

Funeral service was held from Alliance Tabernacle, Yarrow with Rev. J.T. McNair and Rev. K. Neill Foster officiating.

Pallbearers were Carl Wilson, Peter Williams, Nick Williams, Rudy Goerz, Henry Werk and David Giesbrecht. Interment was in the Anglican cemetery, Chilliwack.
